Two Students Selected for 'Posters on the Hill'
Two Fairmont State University students participated in the Council on Undergraduate
Research's "Undergraduate Research Posters on the Hill" event at the U.S. Capitol.
Sixty competitively selected student posters were displayed at the U.S. Capitol on
April 30. The poster of FSU information systems majors Joseph Boyd and Joshua Posey,
both of Weston, was selected to be included in "Posters on the Hill." Their poster
was titled "A Research Study of New Computing Algorithms for a Public Grid Infrastructure
Using the Global Grid Exchange."
Boyd and Posey and their faculty mentor, Dr. Rebecca Giorcelli, FSU Assistant Professor
of Information Systems, visited with representatives from the offices of U.S. Sen.
Jay Rockefeller and U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd to try to raise awareness of the types
of research ongoing in West Virginia and to emphasize the importance of undergraduate
research funding.
Boyd and Posey were among the first FSU students to receive an FSU Summer Undergraduate
Research Experience (SURE) Fellowship, which provided $3,200 for two months of summer
research in 2007 under Giorcelli's mentorship. Boyd and Posey also received support
from Innovation Management & Technology Services (IMTS), where they served as interns.
