Guest Pianist to Perform Feb. 5

Dr. Joceyln Swigger will present a piano recital on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Theatre at Fairmont State University. Admission is free and open to the public.

Swigger enjoys an active career as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician in the United States, Europe and South America. She holds degrees in piano and English from Oberlin College and the Oberlin Conservatory, and she completed master's degrees in piano performance and pedagogy of theory as well as the doctor of musical arts degree at the Eastman School of Music. Principal teachers include Evelyne Brancart, Joseph Schwartz and Rebecca Penneys.

A passionate advocate of new music, Swigger has appeared in composer's forum concerts at Oberlin, Eastman, Cornell and NYU, and she has collaborated with composers including Martin Scherzinger, Dennis DeSantis, Payton MacDonald, Gavin Chuck, Aaron Grad and Forrest Pierce. As a collaborative artist and accompanist, she has played for such institutions as the Manhattan School of Music, the Quartet Program at Bucknell University, the Boys Choir of Harlem and the Juilliard School. She has performed as concerto soloist in the United States with the Albuquerque Chamber Orchestra and at the Music in the Mountains festival in Purgatory, Colo., and in Paraguay with the Orchestra de la Institute Stael Ruffinelli and the Orchestra Sinfónica de la Ciudad de Asunción. She was the inaugural soloist for the Welcome Back to Albuquerque recital series. She has appeared as soloist and chamber player on Opus One Classics on WBFO National Public Radio, and she regularly appears as performer and teacher at the Ameropa International Chamber Music Festival in Prague, the Czech Republic, and Madrid, Spain.

A dedicated teacher, Swigger has taught at Fort Lewis College, the Hochstein Music School, CUNY Queensborough and Adelphi University. She is Coordinator of Keyboard Studies of the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College, where she plays in the Sunderman Trio. In addition to performing on the piano, fortepiano and harpsichord, Swigger also enjoys making music on the accordion and as an enthusiastic choir alto.
