America/FSU Reads Offers Spring Sessions

Feb 20, 2007

The America/ FSU Reads program is preparing for the presentation of its reading enrichment program. The sessions will be held at Faith United Methodist Church on the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Fourth Street in Fairmont. The sessions will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and continue each Tuesday afternoon through April 17 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Fairmont State students under the direction of Donna Yergovich Nuzum, coordinator, and Conni Bolen, assistant, have just completed an intense workshop/training period, working diligently to make this a totally successful reading experience for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

During the sessions, the elementary students will hear stories, play vocabulary games and complete writing/art projects. The program is presented to enhance a child's love of reading. Although it is not a tutoring session, emphasis is placed on good reading practices. A major goal of America/FSU Reads is to assist the children in developing self-esteem and embracing diversity.
