School of Fine Arts Offers Season of Events
Fairmont State University's School of Fine Arts announces its 2006-2007 season of
events in theatre, music and visual art. Theatre and symphony performances require
tickets from the Fairmont State Box Office at (304) 367-4240. Season subscriptions
and Fine Arts Guild memberships are also available.
September
The season opens in September with an animation exhibition designed and mounted by
the Graphics Department. The exhibit will be on display Sept. 6-27 in the Brooks Gallery,
located on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall. Regular gallery hours are Mondays through
Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, with featured violinist Corey Cerovsek, will
perform at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 in Colebank Hall.
To conclude September, guest artist and classical guitarist Steve Aron will present
a concert in the Brooks Gallery at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30.
October
On Oct. 4-31, the photography of Kenneth Hassell, Professor of Art and Chair at Elon
College, will exhibit his work from the coal fields of Appalachia. The opening reception
will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the gallery.
On Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. in Colebank Hall, the Mozart Celebration, featuring the Collegiate
Singers, Chamber Choir and members of the University-Community Chorus will be presented.
The director of the celebration is Dr. Jeffrey Poland.
The Masquers theatre group production of "Lysistrata," Aristophanes" Greek political
comedy about war, warriors and their women, runs Oct. 5-7 and 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. and
Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre.
November
"Oliver!", a Masquers and Town & Gown production of the musical adapted from Dickens'
novel, is set for Nov. 16-18 and Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
in Wallman Hall Theatre.
December
The Collegiate Singers will present a concert on Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. in Wallman Hall
Theatre, and the Wind Ensemble Concert will be Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre,
rounding out the performances for the fall semester.
January
January 2007 brings a return of the American Shakespeare Center productions. The
troupe will perform "Midsummer Night's Dream" at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25; "Julius Caesar"
at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26 and "Cyrano de Bergerac" at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27, all in Wallman
Hall Theatre. Running concurrently in Brooks Gallery will be selections from the Schaupp
Collection of sculpture.
February
West Virginia Symphony Orchestra makes its second appearance of the season on Feb.
1 at 7:30 p.m. in Colebank Hall, featuring Russian pianist Natasha Paremski.
This is also the month for an exhibition of young artists in Brooks Gallery, from
the opening reception at 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7 through Feb. 28.
The third Masquers presentation, an Appalachian play expressing the sense of place
so important to this region, will be performed Feb. 22-24 and March 1-2 at 7:30 p.m.
and Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre.
March
The final professional exhibition in Brooks Gallery, the Wearable Art of Dr. Victoria
Fergus, will open Monday, March 5 with a reception from 7-9 p.m. The exhibition runs
through March 30.
April
The final Masquers production of the season, "The Merchant of Venice," will feature
performances April 26-28 and May 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and April 20 at 2 p.m., all in Wallman
Hall Theatre.
May
Concluding the academic year's events are the Wind Ensemble concert May 1 at 8 p.m.
and the Collegiate Singers' concert May 2 at 8 p.m. The venue for these two concerts
will be announced later.

The FSU Fine Arts Guild is the chief group to support and enhance the cultural climate
of the institution and community and, specifically, to assist financially the Fine
Arts events at FSU in order to support the educational mission of the School of Fine
