Community Music Program Accepting Students
Beginning Aug. 10, the Music for Kids After School division of Fairmont State University's
Community Music Program will be accepting fall registration for private lessons in
piano, voice, guitar, strings, percussion, woodwinds and brass.
All lessons are available for beginner to advanced students with teachers who have
a master's degree or the equivalent in their teaching field and have considerable
teaching experience. Class lessons (with five to 10 students per class) are given
for Beginner Piano for ages 6-8 for those who may want to explore the instrument
and discover potential in a piano laboratory, state-of-the-art Yamaha keyboard setting.
Private piano instruction is also available for age 6-8 and up. All lessons are held
in Wallman Hall on the FSU main campus and at the Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg
on Mondays through Thursdays. There are no waiting lists. Students studying in the
program may elect to perform in recital and participate in the Music-O-Rama held annually
in April. Participation in recitals is not required. Music Achievement Awards are
given. Outstanding musicians are recognized for their achievements. All styles of
music -- classical, blues, pop, rock, jazz, sacred and others -- are taught, depending
upon students' preferences. FSU has year-round children's music studies including
special summer programs: Piano Camp, Brass Camp, Born to Entertain Children's Showchoir
Camp and Strings Fest.
