Calling Campaign Breaks Records

May 05, 2006

Students, faculty, staff and volunteer callers banned together April 2-20 to break all previous calling campaign records and exceed the $12,000 fund-raising goal set for the spring campaign. Alumni and friends of Fairmont State pledged $32,000 to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., in support of 30 different scholarships and programs during the bi-annual Student Calling Campaign.

"We are thrilled by the phenomenal success of this campaign and thankful to our many supporters who responded so positively in support of student scholarship and programs at Fairmont State," said Daniel Bradley, President of Fairmont State University.

"Philanthropic support from our alumni and friends provides much needed scholarship support and increases the stability of the endowment of Fairmont State. This allows for continued growth and fills the gap that state funding does not cover."

Calling efforts were focused on the following funds: the Folklife Kennedy Barn Restoration Fund; The Charlotte Bowman Flynn Dietary Management Matching Challenge, which matches alumni gifts dollar for dollar; and the Fairmont State Futures Fund, supporting Fairmont State's greatest needs and opportunities. Approximately $20,000 of the total pledged was dedicated in support of these funds.

Fairmont State and the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., extend thanks to the following local businesses for contributing in-kind gifts of food and calling incentives: Adam's Office Supply, Aladdin Food Service, Arby's, Backwoods Grill, Bear Bottom Tanning Salon, Domino's Pizza, Fairmont State Barnes and Noble College Bookstore, Hardee's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lion in the Sun, Long John Silvers, Papa John's, Regatta Bar and Grill, Say-Boy Steakhouse, Texas Road House, Tygart Valley Cinema's, Valley Worlds of Fun, Wings Ole' and Winner's Choice.

"This success sets the bar high for our upcoming fall campaign. Students and volunteers are already challenging themselves to break this new record," said K. Jean Ahwesh, Executive Director, Fairmont State Foundation, Inc.

"We are fortunate to have many committed alumni and friends who believe in higher education and the mission of Fairmont State. They know the value of a Fairmont State degree and they give annually to ensure that everyone, regardless of income, is able to attend Fairmont State."

The mission of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., is to support, through ethical stewardship, the mission of Fairmont State University and Fairmont State Community & Technical College. The Foundation identifies, establishes and cultivates meaningful relationships with Fairmont State alumni and potential and existing funding constituencies to meet contributor needs while securing funds and supporters for priority objectives identified by its Board of Directors.
