Leadership Marion Donates to Disc Golf Course

Leadership Marion XXIV Class of 2005-2006 members personally donated $400 to the Seth Burton Memorial Disc Golf Course to build long tee No. 13 at Morris Park.

"Being involved as a volunteer on this project was special to me as I am passionate about the Seth Burton Memorial Foundation and how it is benefiting the community," said Robin Yeager, a class member and Director of the Fairmont State Falcon Center.

The money covers the cost of building the concrete tee pad and signage for long tee 13. Leadership Marion is comprised of people who are motivated by commitment, involvement, understanding and enthusiasm to foster leadership in the community. The program is supported by Fairmont State and the Marion County Chamber of Commerce.

"We're very excited about the new energy that has come to Morris Park and to Fairmont," said Phillip Burton of the Seth Burton Memorial Foundation. "There is a group of wonderful young people from Morgantown who love disc golf and gather regularly to work on the course and of course to play. It's a fun and affordable sport for folks of all ages."

Each year, Leadership Marion participants conduct at least one major project to benefit the Marion County community. This year, in addition to the project at the golf course, Leadership Marion XXIV is participating in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk on May 6 at Duvall-Rosier Field. Earlier this year, the class hosted a benefit basketball game pitting the West Virginia University and Fairmont State football coaching staff against the Leadership Marion XXIV participants. The group raised $1,000 for the Union Mission and $1,000 for the Falcon Center as a result of that effort.
