Sapp Named 2005 College Educator of the Year
Fairmont State University School of Education Associate Professor Dr. G.H. "Budd"
Sapp has been named 2005 College Educator of the Year by the American Legion Department
of West Virginia, Inc.
Sapp was nominated for the award by the Rev. Donal "Jack" Squires.
"It is my estimation that Dr. Sapp is very much worthy of the nomination from the
state Department of the American Legion," Squires said. "I know of no one more qualified
for the award than Dr. Sapp."
Sapp accepted the award and was presented with a plaque, Certificate of Appreciation
and a decorative clock during the American Legion Department of West Virginia Inc.
25th Mid-Winter Annual Conference, which was held at the Days Inn in Bridgeport, Feb.
3-4.
A native of Fairmont, Sapp attended Fairmont Catholic School and graduated from Fairmont
Senior High School. He graduated from Fairmont State with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Education and has a Master of Science degree in Physical Education and Athletic
Training and a Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from West
Virginia University.
He taught at Fairmont Catholic and coached basketball there from 1980 to 1981. He
was a teacher at North Marion High School from 1981 to 1997. There, he taught biology,
anatomy, physiology and sports medicine and coached football, basketball and golf.
He was also the school's athletic trainer, Student Council advisor, Academic List
sponsor and president of the Faculty Senate. His past awards include the 1995 Regional
Education Services Agency VII Exemplary Teacher of the Year award and the Fairmont
State 2005 Outstanding Faculty Achievement Award. Sapp currently teaches traditional
and online professional education courses at both the undergraduate and the graduate
levels. His activities include Leadership Marion Director, President of the Fairmont
State Alumni Association, member of the Marion County Board of Education, Salvation
Army Advisory Board chairman and member of the Newman Center Catholic Chapel at Fairmont
State.
Sapp is married to the former Robin L. Dalton and has two daughters. Brigitte is
a junior at Fairmont State majoring in nursing. Brooklyn is a junior at Fairmont Senior
High School.
