The first step in studying abroad is obtaining your passport. If you have never had a passport before you will need:
- Completed Passport Application (DS-11)
- Evidence of US Citizenship:
- Generally, your US Birth Certificate, b.Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship.
- Identification, most commonly one of the following:
- In-state, fully valid driver's license or enhanced driver's license with photo b.Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
- U.S. military or military dependent ID
- Photocopies of 2 and 3
- Provide a Photo: The photo guidelines are very specific for a 2in x 2in headshot. Please follow these guidelines. Most passport acceptance facilities have photo taking abilities for an extra charge.
- Bring a Check: According to US Department of State: “You must pay fees for passport services. When
applying using Form DS-11, you will pay two separate fees - an application fee and
an execution (acceptance) fee.” The fee may be paid using other forms of payment to
the facility, and and the application fee should be a check made out to the US Department
of State.
- Adult Applicants (Age 16 and older):
- Execution (Acceptance) Fee: $35
- Passport Book DS-11: $130
- Passport Card DS-11: $30
- Passport Book & Card DS-11: $160
- Expedited service costs an additional: $60
