Mental Health Services

Group Therapy Opportunity

Mid-Week Mindfulness 

The Office of Student Health is hosting a mid-week mindfulness group session every Wednesday from 12 - 1 p.m.  This is offered in our new group therapy room in the Office of Student Health on the 3rd floor of the Falcon Center. This group is open to Fairmont State University undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty. The group is designed to assist students with present moment awareness. Common themes may include: Navigating academic pressures, procrastination, anxiety, depression, substance use, self-care, and maintaining healthy relationships with friends, family, and others. Hope to see you there! Previous engagement in individual and/or group therapy IS NOT Required – Come as you are.

Health Services

Services provided to currently enrolled students by medical providers as available:

  • Evaluation and treatment of illness and injury, referral as necessary
  • STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection, including Gonorrhea and Chlamydia) counseling, testing, treatment, and referral as appropriate
  • Women's Health exams and contraceptives through West Virginia Family Planning Program. Enrollment in the program is required.
  • Pap smears and gynecological exams are available by appointment.
  • Nexplanon insertions are available by appointment.
  • In-Office lab testing for COVID-19, flu, Strep Throat, Mono, Urinalysis, Blood Glucose, Urine Pregnancy
  • Evaluation and counseling referral for treatment of depression, eating disorders, anxiety, drug or alcohol addiction, etc.
  • Referral for clinical laboratory testing.  (Student must obtain lab tests off campus and is responsible for all fees incurred)
  • Referral for x-rays. (Student must obtain x-rays off campus and is responsible for all fees incurred)
  • Allergy injections (Students must provide their own serum and instructions from their Allergist.)
  • Gardasil  (must see provider for script, obtain the syringe of medication from pharmacy, and we will give the injection)
  • DepoProvera Injection (we have in office, must see a provider for injection)
  • Limited over the counter medications and first-aid treatment/supplies 
  • School required entrance physicals for Education and Health Care programs by appointment. We DO NOT offer Athletic Physicals.

There is no charge for the physical exam. We do not bill insurance.

We ARE NOT an emergency facility. If you have an emergency, please call 911 directly.   AFter hours mental health crisis, call valley crisis for help at 800-232-0020.

STI Testing and Counseling Available in Health Services

STI counseling and testing are available in the Student Health Service free of charge for Fairmont State students. Please call our office at 304-367-4155 for details.

Women's Health

Women's Health Services are available in the Health Center through the West Virginia Family Planning Program. We offer oral contraceptives, transdermal contraceptives, Nuva Ring, Depo Provera injection, Nexplanon, and Plan B through the program by appointment. We can prescribe Gardasil and administer the injection, but the injections have to be picked up by the student from a pharmacy of their choice. Students may phone or come to the office for more details. Our number is 304-367-4155. We also offer free condoms, pads, and tampons at zero cost to any student. These supplies are sitting in the lobby area.
