ACCUPLACER Resources

Purpose

The ACCUPLACER (math portion) is used to measure a student’s current understanding and skill in that subject. The results are used by Fairmont State to determine what math course is most appropriate for the student’s skill level.

Materials

What should I bring?

  • Valid ID (Student, Driver’s License, Driver’s Permit, Military, Gov. Issued, Etc.) Students MUST have valid ID to enter testing room.
  • No personal belongings can be taken into the testing room. All
belongings MUST be left outside the testing room.

Strategy

Remember that the ACCUPLACER is not a Pass/Fail exam.

It is only a tool used to assess which courses are most appropriate for your skill level. Simply prepare and do your best.
If you are not sure of an answer, try to eliminate one or more of the choices and answer what appears to be the best choice.

Day of

Please arrive to the testing center about 15 minutes before your scheduled testing time.

This will allow you time to check in and verify personal information. Do not bring a calculator, phone, or other personal items. A calculator will be provided on the ACCUPLACER testing window.

Where is the Testing Room?

The Fairmont State ACCUPLACER is administered in the SkyLab, which located on the 3rd floor of the Ruth Ann Musick Library. Check out the campus map. After entering the library, the librarians can help direct you to the stairs or elevator. Once on the 3rd floor, the SkyLab is to the right along the far wall.

Retesting

Students will only be able to retake the ACCUPLACER 2 times per semester, and a total of 4 times per academic year. Retests must be scheduled with at least 1 week between test sessions. This allows the student to better prepare for the second test session. Any tests scheduled with less than 7 days between sessions or multiple sessions scheduled before the first session being completed will be canceled.
