The AIMSS program works with each student to develop an individualized plan to support personal and academic goals. The three areas of focus include: academic skills, social skills, and daily living skills.
Academic Support
- Building self-advocacy
- Recognizing and requesting reasonable accommodations
- Learning to communicate effectively with professors
- Developing visual schedules and other organizational skills
- Planning for homework, studying, and test-taking
- Using study area exclusively for AIMSS students
- Receiving course selection recommendations
- Mentoring individual students
Social Skills Support
- Get assistance with involvement in on-campus activities, groups or organizations
- Form bonds with AIMSS students and staff through a variety of available activities and/or meals
- Participate in individual and small group mentoring
Independent Living Skills Support
- Gain independence during the transition to college and adulthood
- Learn and practice effective skills to use in dorms
- Participate in foundations groups that teach independent living skills
- Advise individual and small groups on common skills such as housing responsibilities, nutrition and exercise, proper sleep, and financial planning.
