  • ABBYY TextGrabber - Using the camera of your device, capture text and translate it using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) scanning.
  • Balabolka - A text to speech program that allows students to save output as MP3, MP4, OGG, WMA, and WAV file. Also allows users to create custom dictionaries.
  • BeeLine Reader - Changes text appearance with a color gradient to help make on-screen reading more effective and help you maintain your focus better.
  • Bookshare - Large online library of accessible reading materials for people with qualified print disabilities. Books available for download can be read on DAISY players, with Screen Readers, Refreshable Braille Displays, and other Assistive Technology Programs.
  • Capti Voice - Convert documents and webpages into text-to-speech.
  • CamScanner - Use your camera phone to scan documents, notes, whiteboards, business cards or any other document and then use the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature to convert images to readable text.
  • Dolphin EasyReader - Reading app with customizable settings for the reader’s preferences. The app offers magnification, bookmarks, change in font size and color, and text audio.
  • HelperBird - Reading and writing tool that includes text-to-speech and speech-to-text options. Includes features for assistance with color blindness, magnification, an overlay to reduce bright light, and more.
  • Immersive Reader - Reading assistive tool with customizable text appearance, including font size/style, background color, line focus, and spacing words into syllables. Text to speech with adjustable voice speed and selection for having the text read aloud.
  • Microsoft OneNote with Learning Tools - Text can be read out loud, have breaks into syllables, and increase spacing between lines and letters. There is text decoding for learning disabilities such as dyslexia.
  • PocketBook Reader - Supports a variety of file types and audio formats, contains built-in text-to-speech, and has customizable reading appearance settings.
  • NaturalReader - Text-to-Speech software that can read Microsoft Word, Webpages, PDFs, and Emails aloud.
  • NVDA Screen Reader - Screen reader that can read MathML and some other math.
  • Rewordify - Rewordify replaces higher-level vocabulary with words that are easier to understand.
  • Speechify - Upload documents into the application and/or use it to read aloud other websites with the chrome extension. Have your text read in a variety of languages.

  • Envision - Visual description and OCR application that can read in over 60 languages. Includes features such as handwriting recognition, color detection, finding objects and people, scene description, and more.

Mental Health Apps

  • Mindshift: Designed to provide you with tools for managing various types of anxiety, including test anxiety, perfectionism, social anxiety, performance anxiety, worry, panic, and conflict.
  • Tactical Breather: Can be used to gain control over physiological and psychological responses to stress. Through repetitive practice and training, you can learn to gain control of your heart rate, emotions, concentration, and other physiological and psychological responses to your body during stressful situations.
  • Calm: Provides free guided meditations and calming sounds and images ranging from two to 35 minutes.
  • Headspace: Meditation made relevant to modern life. Get unique daily guided meditations, science facts and figures and progress reports, all designed to make it as easy as possible for you to get some calm and clarity.
