You can apply online beginning in August of each year. The priority deadline for Fall admission is January 15th; Spring admission is July 1st, and Summer admission is March 1st.
The College of Nursing will review all qualified applicants after the priority deadline.
Students should expect to hear about their admission status 4-6 weeks following the completion of the review of applicants.
Students may continue to apply after the admission date and will be reviewed as spots are available for admission or on the waitlist.
Students qualified for admission may be placed on the waitlist to see if a spot will become available. If an admitted student decides not to come into the program a student from the waitlist may be admitted. If the student is on the waitlist and not admitted to the program he/she will need to reapply to the program for admission consideration.
When the waitlist is full no additional applications will be reviewed for admission.
A separate waitlist exists for the traditional ASN program, LPN to ASN, and Hybrid/Weekend programs.

Certain other credentials may have to be submitted again, like updated transcripts (if you have taken more courses at another institution) or a new TEAS test. You will be notified of any additional credentials that are required.
New students to Fairmont State University must submit the regular application for admission.
All students must submit a nursing application (found on the nursing website). The nursing program application does not have a fee.
The traditional ASN program accepts 48 students in the fall semester and 48 students in the Spring semester.
The LPN to ASN program accepts 32 students in the fall semester and 32 students in the Spring semester.

Clinical labs will be conducted in regional hospitals, healthcare agencies and throughout the community. Skills and Simulation labs will be held on campus.
The LPN-ASN Program is asynchronous online classes with an occasional class on campus. Clinical labs will be conducted in regional hospitals and healthcare agencies and throughout the community. Skills and Simulation labs will be held on campus.
The Hybrid/Weekend ASN Program classes and clinical are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with an occasional day during the week for a special event. A small portion of theory courses will be held asynchronously. Clinical labs will be conducted in regional hospitals, healthcare agencies and throughout the community. Skills and Simulation labs will be held on the campus.
There are no pre-requisite courses for the traditional ASN program.
There are several required courses for the LPN to ASN program.
*LPN to ASN students are eligible to take CLEP exams for NUTR 1110 and BIOL 1180/1181. Please speak with the Dean in the College of Nursing.
The Hybrid/Weekend Program students are encouraged to complete the majority of the non-nursing support courses prior to entrance into the nursing curriculum.
The student should expect to spend two days per week in class and two days per week in clinical.
The LPN-ASN Program courses are held asynchronous online with an occasional class or special event on campus. The number and days for clinical labs and clinical learning experiences will vary per week and semester.
The Hybrid/Weekend ASN Program classes and clinical are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with an occasional day during the week for a special event. Tuition and fees are based on the number of credit hours taken and is set by the University. Students must meet clinical agency requirements including drug screen, background check, CPR, health insurance, vaccinations and titers, etc. The following is an approximate additional cost for students:
*Current, Transfer or Readmitted students who have completed 24 or more college credit hours are exempt from this requirement.
Transfer students may be accepted from other nursing programs depending on available spots in classes, previous course work, and performance on select exams and competency evaluation as appropriate for each course. Students must meet program eligibility requirements for admission.
Our program is rigorous and fast-past format that requires a lot of time and energy. Many of our students work during the program, some may choose not to.
You may be able to fit the coursework around your work schedule; however, we do not recommend students work full time and suggest students to work less than 12 hours per week.
Students will receive a series of emails to their Fairmont State University account regarding any missing information and admission decision. Please monitor your email.
New students are required to attend a university orientation program.
Students admitted to the nursing program are required to attend a mandatory College of Nursing orientation program. The orientation is normally held the Friday prior to the beginning of classes.
You should enroll in the most challenging college preparation courses your high school offers; especially in the areas of science, English, and math.
