Fairmont State University Community Health Students urge local community members to participate in needs assessment survey

Apr 06, 2023Events

Students enrolled in the Community Health Promotion Program’s Needs Assessment course at Fairmont State University are working with local sober living organizations to assess the needs of their clients.

“Social support for recovery is important in establishing sustained abstinence and improving treatment outcomes,” said Assistant Professor of Community Health Promotion Andrea Haney. “Examining the community will be essential to better meet the needs of individuals suffering from alcohol and drug disorders.”

Fairmont State Community Health students will use government data, electronic surveys and interviews with key stakeholders to better understand the most pressing needs in the community. The results of the needs assessment projects will be used by the students to develop health and safety programs that will be presented to the community later this year.

These students urge members of the local community who qualify to partake in the survey so that they can collect as much data as possible in order to properly assess their needs.

Anyone who lives at a sober living facility or gets services from a sober living organization (including people who participate in NA and/or AA meetings) and is at least 18 years old can participate in the survey.

Survey topics include:

·     Psychological health

·     Nutrition & physical activity

·     Employment needs

·     Financial health

·     Relationships with others

·     Healthcare access

·     Transportation needs

The survey can be completed at https://redcap.link/SoberLiving
