SIFE Team Honored at Regional Competition

Apr 13, 2005

The Fairmont State Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team was honored at the 2005 SIFE USA Regional Competition in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 6.

After presenting a report of the team's year-long community outreach projects to a panel of business leaders, the Fairmont State SIFE Team was named First Runner Up in the overall competition.

SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,800 college and university campuses in more than 40 countries. SIFE Teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that teach market economics, entrepreneurship, personal finance success skills and business ethics. Their projects are judged at competition on creativity, innovation and effectiveness.

During this academic year, the Fairmont State SIFE Team organized several projects in the Fairmont community, including teaching fifth-grade students about global marketing and a project to prepare high school students for ethics in the workplace. The SIFE Team was also recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Marcus Foundation to work with at-risk high school students.
