Humbert to Present Presidential Lecture

Apr 04, 2005

As part of the Fairmont State Presidential Lecture Series, Dr. Roxann Humbert will present "Teaching the 21st Century Learner."

The 16th annual lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Multi-media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.

Humbert's presentation will focus on the challenges that higher education must meet: faculty who are comfortable with new strategies, assignments and approaches to learning; students who are prepared to be savvy technology users; and classrooms that provide equipment and opportunity in which students become prepared for 21st century jobs.

The Presidential Lecture Series was established in 1989 to provide faculty the opportunity to share their work with colleagues and members of the community. After the lecture, there will be a reception in the library lobby.

Humbert serves as Director of Learning Technologies and Assistant Professor of Education for Fairmont State. She provides pedagogical support for faculty developing online courses and coordinates the Online Course Development Grant Program. In addition, she teaches online instructional technology courses for the School of Education. She also serves as the campus coordinator for the Southern Regional Educational Campus and the West Virginia Virtual Learning Network. Prior to joining Fairmont State, she was the manager of Learning and Information Technologies at the West Virginia Network. Humbert has made more than 50 state, local and national presentations on distance education, online learning and other technology related topics. She received the West Virginia Governor's Office of Technology Award in 2000 for her statewide efforts in implementing online learning. She also has earned a certificate as a Master Online Teacher through the Illinois Online Network at the University of Illinois.
