Fairmont State University and Marion County Humane Society collaborate on fundraising events and invite the community to participate

Apr 06, 2023Events

Fairmont State University’s Encova Career Development Center has partnered with the Marion County Humane Society to host a string of fundraising events on campus. Three major events will be held throughout the month of April until the beginning of May to help raise money for the Marion County Humane Society, which will be opening a larger, brand-new facility in the coming weeks to accommodate the large number of animals in their care.

“We are excited to partner with Marion County Humane Society to not only help reach their goal but to expose our students to giving back to our community,” said Director of Career Services and Civic Engagement Susan Rodriguez.

Professor of English Donna Long serves on the Board of Directors at the Marion County Humane Society as their President and approached the Encova Career Development Center to collaborate as part of the Career Development Center’s civic engagement initiative.

"I know so many of us at Fairmont State are animal lovers and believe in the Shelter's mission to provide care for animals in need,” said Long. “Everyone at the Marion County Humane Society No-kill Shelter appreciates the support of the Fairmont State University community as we move forward with the new $2 million facility.”

The first of the three events, the “Raise the Woof Kickoff”, will be held on April 10 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Falcon Center Quad. Animals from the Humane Society available for adoption will be present at the event for plenty of love and snuggles, and a punch-board game with prizes will also be available for attendees to try out. The event will be relocated to Mainstreet inside the Falcon Center on the second floor if there is rain.

The second event will be held on April 18 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Mainstreet inside the Falcon Center on the second floor. Tables with t-shirts, candy, pledge cards and more will be set up for people to purchase. Animals available for adoption from the Humane Society will also be present at this fundraising event from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The last event, “Photos with a Furry Friend”, will be held on May 2 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Mainstreet inside the Falcon Center on the second floor. During this event, attendees can have their photo taken with some of the animals available for adoption from the Humane Society for $5. Shirts, candles, and pledge cards will also be available for purchase at the event.

All events are open for community members to attend.
