Fairmont State University will host high school students from throughout the state at the inaugural WVSSAC Robotics State Championship on Monday, May 16 in the Feaster Center.

All WVSSAC-affiliated high schools are eligible to compete in the championship. Awards will be presented for winners of the head-to-head tournament and skills challenge. The following judged awards will also be given to participating teams:

  • Design Award
  • Programming Award
  • Create Award
  • Build Award

"This is the first of many tournaments that will engage students in STEM, and inspire them to pursue careers in coding and robotics," said NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center Program Manager, Dr. Todd Ensign.

In addition to qualification matches taking place throughout the day, keynote addresses will be provided by NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, an astronaut from NASA, among other distinguished guests.

Spectators are invited to attend free of charge. The NASA Destination Station exhibit will also be available on campus for guests to enjoy from 7:30 – 10 a.m.

“We are thrilled to host the inaugural WVSSAC Robotics State Championship,” said Fairmont State University President, Mirta M. Martin. “We are committed to promoting STEM fields and careers. This fun competition is not only the perfect way to enthuse West Virginia youth and motivate them to explore their interests in STEM programs, but it also serves as a chance for them to gather with like-minded students and share their excitement and passion about robotics. We welcome all the competitors and their families, and hope they enjoy their visit to our cozy campus.”

Event sponsors include Leidos, Aurora Flight Sciences, NASA and Fairmont State University.
