SGA to Stay Scholarship encourages students to continue college education

Fairmont State University’s Student Government Association has announced the creation of the SGA to Stay Scholarship, a one-year scholarship available to two students starting the fall 2019 semester. 

“We’ve been thinking about the idea of having a SGA scholarship the last few years, but last year we really saw the numbers that showed how many of our students drop out during junior and senior years,” Dillion Bradley SGA president said. “Most scholarships students receive end at the end of their sophomore year and we don’t want to see other students drop out of school because their scholarships ended and didn’t have money to pay for school.” 

As students, they wanted to find a way to help other Falcons to continue their journey in higher education at Fairmont State. Raychel Fitzwater, secretary of SGA, said while they aren’t able to help every student, they want to know they are doing what they can to keep their peers in class. 

“I feel that this is important for us to do for juniors and seniors so we are able to let them know people know what problems they might be having and there are people willing to help them,” she said. “I am so glad that our SGA Executive Board took on this project and worked together to get this out there for our students.”

Juniors and seniors are eligible for the one-year $1,000 scholarship, that will be split for $500 each semester. The scholarship selection is chosen by the SGA Executive board members from the information provided in the applications.
