WV REC Foundation Aerial Drone Signature Event to take place in Falcon Center
Middle to high school age students will have the opportunity to participate in the West Virginia REC Foundation Aerial Drone Signature Event February 25 – 26 in the Falcon Center on the University’s campus. Activities to take place throughout the weekend include an aerial drone tournament, NASA educator training, an aviation career expo, among others.
The event will kick off on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. with a welcome from Fairmont State University President, Mirta M. Martin, and a keynote address. The tournament and expo will continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
“The REC Foundation Aerial Drone program serves to introduce students to applications and career opportunities with aerial drones. Drones are one of the new and emerging technologies that have rapidly growing applications in aerial photography, mapping, navigation, search and rescue, defense and transportation,” said Fairmont State Faculty and Program Manager of NASA IV&V Education Resource Center, Todd Ensign.
“Hosting this event at Fairmont State extends our range of STEM competitions, and introduces students to our campus, faculty and academic programs,” Ensign added.
The event is being presented in partnership with Fairmont State University, the NASA IV&V Program and its Education Resource Center, the REC Foundation, For The Win Robotics and NASA's Langley Research Center.

Martin. “The nation, and our region, faces the need for more and more highly skilled STEM professionals. Events like the West Virginia REC Foundation Aerial Drone Signature Event will inspire young STEM students, and it will give our homegrown talent real-world experience using STEM principles.”
