Fairmont State Hosts Prospective Students for Annual SOAR Awards Event

Dec 07, 2021

More than 100 prospective students filled Fairmont State University’s Falcon Center last Friday for the opportunity to earn a $500 SOAR Award scholarship to offset their educational costs.

“We loved seeing so many future Falcons on campus and we felt their excitement for the upcoming school year,” said Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and Student Life, Alicia Kalka.

At the event, the Future Falcons and their families also gleaned insight from University representatives who answered questions related to the value of higher education, academic pathways and career opportunities as well as student life at Fairmont State.

“More and more students and their families choose to join the Falcon Family because they know we put them first,” said Fairmont State University President, Mirta M. Martin. “These SOAR Awards allow more students to pursue a quality, affordable education, and they enable Fairmont State to transform more lives.”

The SOAR Awards are available to first-time freshmen admitted to Fairmont State for the 2022 – 2023 academic year. Established in 2018 as an institutional commitment to student achievement and success, the scholarships may be renewed on a yearly basis, pending the fulfillment of academic requirements, for a potential total value of $2,000. Additional SOAR Awards sessions are scheduled throughout the new year at the following locations:

  • Friday, January 28 – Inwood, WV
  • Saturday, January 29 – Washington D.C.
  • Thursday, February 3 – Canonsburg, PA
  • Tuesday, February 8 – Charleston, WV
  • Tuesday, February 22 – Beckley, WV
  • Saturday, February 26 – Fairmont, WV

Prospective students planning to attend a session should complete an admissions application beforehand at www.fairmontstate.edu/apply. For more information regarding event times and locations or to register, visit www.fairmontstate.edu/SOAR.

“We look forward to visiting and engaging with our Future Falcons and their families to ensure their transition to college life is as seamless as possible,” said Fairmont State University Vice President for Student Success, Ken Fettig. “We are deeply committed to the success of our students throughout their entire college journey, from the first to final stages.”
