Fairmont State University has revised its Master of Education in Digital Media, New Literacies, and Learning to a Master of Instructional Design and Technology. The reorganized program is now accepting applications for the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters.
Five Fairmont State faculty members and six students attended the 2024 West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (WVCTM) annual conference on March 15 and 16 at the Stonewall Jackson Resort in Roanoke, W.VA.
Fairmont State University will host its 155th Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 11. There will be three separate ceremonies taking place throughout the day. The first will be at 10 a.m. for the College of Business & Aviation and the College of Education, Health & Human Performance. The second will be at 1 p.m. for the College of Liberal Arts and Regents Bachelor of Arts Program. The third and final ceremony will be at 4 p.m. for the College of Nursing and the College of Science & Technology.

Fairmont State University is pleased to announce the appointment of John W. Nisbet as Interim Vice President of Finance & Administration/Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective May 13. Nisbet joins Fairmont State following the departure of longtime VP/CFO Christa Kwiatkowski. He will serve in this capacity while the University searches for a permanent replacement.
Colleges and universities across the state continue to prepare for implementation of the “The Campus Self-Defense Act" (sometimes called the "Campus Carry Bill"), which goes into effect July 1, 2024. The bill was passed by the West Virginia Legislature in 2023.

During their April 18 meeting, Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors announced an award of nearly $7 million dollars in federal funding, approved a new degree program to support the recently announced Middle College, approved an intent to plan a new degree to aid tourism in West Virginia, and approved a modest tuition and fee increase.
Fairmont State University has been awarded $31,000 in grant funding from the West Virginia Department of Education. The grant will be used to host an Elementary Earth and Space Science Literacy Workshop for elementary school teacher’s professional development.
Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology has been awarded $5,000 through the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh towards the purchase of a Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer. The device will be used by the University’s chemistry and forensic science programs.
Fairmont State University’s Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host the Wartz ‘n All Dulcimer Jam on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lap dulcimer players, as-well-as all other acoustic musicians, are invited to attend. For beginner dulcimer players or those curious about the instrument, the Folklife Center will have cardboard dulcimers to lend.
A Fairmont State alumnus and Fairmont native has created a scholarship at Fairmont State University designed specifically to help students who work while they pursue a degree.
Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will present the West Virginia Storytelling Guild’s spring concert, titled “All Things New.”
A second-generation Fairmont State alumnus and his wife have created a new scholarship supporting first-generation students studying for careers in health sciences, nursing, or accounting at Fairmont State University. John and Kat Guido have established The Dr. & Mrs. Joseph P. Guido Memorial Scholarship in honor of his parents – Joseph and Therese.
Three West Virginia high school seniors have been selected as recipients of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship. Grace Wells (Fairmont, W.VA), Lauren Bailey (Ripley, W.VA) and Madison Lagasse (Salem, W.VA) will have the entirety of their tuition and more paid for by the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. In addition to tuition, the McClain scholarship covers room and board and provides scholarship awardees with a $500 per semester allowance to purchase textbooks from the Fairmont State Bound for Success bookstore.
