Fairmont State Scholarship Applications Now Open
Fairmont State University is now accepting General and Presidential Scholarship applications for the 2021-22 Academic Year.
“Fairmont State University prides itself on offering a quality, transformative education that’s affordable,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “We not only offer one of the lowest tuition rates in the state, but because we have such stellar outcomes, I believe our value is also unmatched. Scholarships save our students even more money, and make our value that much more remarkable.”
Both incoming and current Fairmont State students are encouraged to complete the General Scholarship application in order to determine eligibility for funding awarded through the University’s Office of Financial Aid. A variety of institutional scholarships are available through individual academic departments as well as the Fairmont State Foundation. For a comprehensive list of scholarships and their requirements, visit www.fairmontstate.edu/scholarships.
All scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The General Scholarship application is available at www.fairmontstate.edu/generalscholarshipapp and the submission deadline is March 15, 2021.
“Students have benefited from the departmental and the Foundation scholarships for many years,” said Tresa Weimer, Fairmont State Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships. “Each year the number of students steadily increases as our generous donors and Foundation staff provide scholarships for students based on their major, financial need, academic standing, traditional or non-traditional status, county of residency, legacy and leadership.”
The McClain Presidential Scholarship, Fairmont State’s premiere academic scholarship, is open to high school seniors in West Virginia who are Promise Scholarship recipients. Eligible applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 in addition to a composite ACT score of 26 or higher or an SAT total score of 1260 or higher. Upon completion of the application, finalists will be chosen to enter an interview process. Three winners will then be selected to receive funding for tuition, fees, room and board in addition to a books and supplies stipend.
Those students who make it to the interview stage but are not ultimately chosen to receive the Presidential Scholarship will each receive a $1,500 Presidential Finalist Scholarship. Annual scholarship renewal is dependent upon meeting academic performance criteria. Applications for the McClain Presidential Scholarship are available at www.fairmontstate.edu/presidentialscholarshipapp and must be submitted by February 1, 2021.
“Students who are awarded the Presidential Scholarship or the Presidential Finalist Scholarship are among the highest academic students at our institution; these students naturally serve in leadership roles and are academic role models and mentors for other students,” Weimer said.
All students completing the General or Presidential Scholarship applications must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Fairmont State in order to be awarded scholarships through the University. Completing the FAFSA will also enable financial aid counselors to determine a student’s total award package, including grants and loans. For those who need help filing the FAFSA, Fairmont State offers free virtual assistance via Webex. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at (304) 367-4141 or FinancialAid@FairmontState.edu for more information.
