Mon Health and Fairmont State Honor Mon Health Scholars at Pinning Ceremony

Oct 29, 2020

Mon Health and Fairmont State gathered to celebrate the first class of Mon Health Scholars at Pinning Ceremonies in the Falcon Center on Wednesday, October 28. The Mon Health Scholars Program joins the rigor of the Fairmont State School of Nursing academic programs and the clinical expertise available at Mon Health.

“The impact of our partnership with Mon Health is just beginning,” Mirta M. Martin, president of Fairmont State University, said. “As the first cohort of Mon Health Scholars, these passionate, highly-skilled students will enter the healthcare profession and have immeasurable impact on their communities. This is far more than a scholarship opportunity – it’s an engine that helps us educate our home-grown talent and funnels them into rewarding careers right here in the region.”

The Mon Health Scholars partnership was established to provide Fairmont State University School of Nursing students academic scholarships and financial support, with a promise of employment with Mon Health System upon graduation.

“The Fairmont State School of Nursing has a longstanding reputation of excellence, producing the best and brightest nurses.” said Krystal Atkinson, Mon Health System Chief Nursing Officer. “We are certain our Mon Health Scholars will enable us to continue providing quality, compassionate care to our communities, and we are proud to support them through every step of their career development.”

All students received pins during the ceremonies as recognition for their acceptance into the Mon Health Scholars program. To adhere with current social gathering limitations, two ceremonies were held to honor the inaugural class of Mon Health Scholars. One ceremony began at 5 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m., with families and friends gathering virtually and viewing through an online streaming service.

“During their time at Fairmont State, our nursing students are provided with the knowledge to succeed as healthcare professionals, applying skills established in authentic healthcare arenas,” said Laura Clayton, Fairmont State School of Nursing Dean. “The Mon Health Scholars program empowers our students to lead in the ever-changing healthcare landscape and we are beyond proud to play a role in the transformation of our students as they become professional nurses.”
