Fairmont State transitions Maroon & White Week to a series of virtual programming events

Oct 19, 2020

Fairmont State University will host future Falcons and their families during the virtual Maroon and White Week November 8 – 14. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fairmont State has transitioned the annual fall visitation day to a week of online programming.

Maroon and White week provides the opportunity for both traditional and non-traditional students and their families to explore Fairmont State’s offerings, including more than 80 programs of study.

“Typically, we would host one large open house on campus each fall, and one each spring, and would have a series of major based Exploration Days,” said Chris Sharps, Senior Director of Recruitment. “We have combined our two major visit programs into one week to provide a springboard for students, parents and others to learn more about their future here at Fairmont State, and to have a whole host of information sessions available at their fingertips – either in computer labs at their school, on their home computer or laptop or in the palm of their hand on a mobile phone or tablet.”

Many of the University’s schools and colleges will host presentations throughout the week, with sessions taking place Monday – Friday. In addition, Monday - Friday at 3 p.m. Financial Aid and Residence Life will hold a session to assist students and their families navigate financial aid and on-campus housing options.

“Due to COVID-19, and student’s school schedules being different from state to state, county to county and even home to home – we wanted to offer programming that fits everyone’s needs as well as their schedule,” Sharps said. “Each day of the week Monday – Friday is dedicated to a different school or college here at Fairmont State.”

Students, parents and school counselors may attend unlimited sessions by registering online at http://www.fairmontstate.edu/maroonandwhiteday. For those unable to attend the event sessions, other visitation options are available at www.fairmontstate.edu/visit.

“Choosing a college is one of the biggest decisions students and their families can make,” Mirta M. Martin, president of Fairmont State University, said. “This year more than ever, these families deserve information that will help them make that decision. By offering a virtual Maroon and White Week, our admissions staff and faculty not only embody Fairmont State’s resiliency and agility, but they also demonstrate our characteristic ‘student-first’ philosophy.”

Fairmont State University’s cozy, tree-filled hilltop campus is located in Fairmont, along the state’s growing high technology corridor. Fairmont State is a comprehensive, student-centered, state-supported institution offering 41-degree programs and over 80 programs of study in the arts and sciences, engineering and technology, teacher education, nursing and business administration. The institution is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
