Students awarded scholarships by Contractors Association of WV
The Contractors Association of West Virginia Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships to four Fairmont State University students pursing an education and career in construction or engineering. Recipients were selected based on their academic performance, extracurricular activities, work experience, financial need and an interest in a construction industry career.
Finalists were selected in February and were scheduled to be interviewed by the CAWV Scholarship Foundation Board of Trustees in March. Typically, scholarship winners are presented their award during the CAWV State Meeting held in conjunction with the West Virginia Construction & Design EXPO (WVEXPO) at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WVEXPO and the State Meeting were canceled.
“Many thanks to the Contactors Association of West Virginia for their support of West Virginia’s college students,” Dr. Steve Roof, interim Dean of Science & Technology, said. “Their generous scholarships provided to Fairmont State students help ease the financial burden of college for our students enabling them to focus on their studies.”
The Scholarship Board voted to award the same amount of scholarships given the previous year. Awards were divided equally amongst the seven finalists. Fairmont State students that received a scholarship award of $2,500 are: Ben Cochran, Garrett Devericks, Hunter Drake, and Emily Glover.
“The CAWV scholarship makes a huge impact on all the students who have had the honor of applying,” Glover, a Civil Engineering student, said. “It is not only a wonderful opportunity to work on interviewing skills and professionalism, but it also allows us to network with those in the field who have many years of valuable experience for us to learn from.”
The CAWV, the state’s largest full-service construction association, represents over 450 firms in the building, highway and utility construction industry throughout West Virginia.
