Community Bonfire and Kick-Off to start Homecoming 2019
Fairmont State University invites the entire Falcon Family to the Community Bonfire and Kick-Off to help start Homecoming 2019. All community members, students, and alumni are invited for an evening full of school spirit, food, and activities for the kids.
“This year we are excited to offer four food trucks, a hot chocolate bar, glow bracelets and necklaces, s’mores stations, balloon artist Mr. Twister, and a fire juggler,” said Jessie Sharps, Homecoming committee chair.
The bonfire will begin at 7 p.m. in the gravel lot by the tennis courts on campus. Lawn games such as cornhole will be set up and there will be a seating area where people are able to gather to visit.
T-shirts will be handed out to community members on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. Activity books will also be available for our Jr. Falcons. Food truck tickets will be available for purchase through an online payment system. No cash or checks will be accepted.
President Mirta Martin will kick-off the event and then Head Football Coach, Jason Woodman, will help rile the crowd. At the conclusion of their remarks, the bonfire will be lit and the festivities will commence.
Attendees are invited to park near the tennis courts. Signage and campus police will be on hand to help direct traffic.
The festivities continue on Friday for the Alumni & Emeritus Luncheon which will begin at 11 a.m. in the Falcon Center Gym 1. This event is sponsored by The Thrasher Group. Registration can be found online at fairmontstate.edu/homecoming.
The Hall of Fame Dinner will follow Friday evening with a social starting at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. in the Falcon Center Gym 1.
The Falcon Family will continue the celebration on Saturday morning with the Homecoming Parade which starts at 10 a.m. at Palatine Park, crosses over the 3rd Street bridge, across Fairmont Avenue, and continues to connect with Locust Avenue. The parade with march down Locust Avenue and will finish in front of the Alumni Center.
Tailgating will begin at noon and then the Fighting Falcons take on West Liberty at 2 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field. The Office of Student Success is sponsoring a kid’s zone with an inflatable slide, face painter, balloon artist and more. Anyone attending the game is welcome to enjoy these free activities.
“Many departments including Student Life and the Alumni Association come together to put on a great event,” Sharps said. “We hope the Falcon Family comes out to celebrate with one another and remember what it means to be a Falcon.”
