Alumna Deborah Phelps named a "Phi Mu History Maker" in honor of the fraternity's alliance with the National Women's History Museum
Deborah (“Debbie”) Phelps, motivational speaker, author, educator and executive director of the Education Foundation of the Baltimore County Public Schools, Inc., and a member of the Beta Chi Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity at Fairmont State University, has been named one of 19 “Phi Mu History Makers” in honor of the organization’s historic alliance with the National Women’s History Museum.
This alliance creates a national collaboration to educate and inspire Phi Mu collegiate and alumnae members about the Museum and its mission. Through active participation in national and local philanthropic efforts, Phi Mu will impact lasting change and help contribute to the Museum’s innovative educational programs and building a national women’s history museum in Washington, DC. The alliance was announced in 2018.
The “Phi Mu History Makers” initiative celebrates the Fraternity’s most vibrant members and their outstanding contributions to their professions, communities, and the nation at large. Named annually, the initial group of living sisters was announced on March 4, 2019, at a Founders’ Day celebration at Wesleyan College, in Macon, Ga., site of the Fraternity’s 1852 founding.
The stories of these sisters will appear on Phi Mu’s website and in social media campaigns, and they will be invited to related programs to be held on college campuses across the country in the coming year as ambassadors of this alliance.
For 167 years, Phi Mu’s 200,000 collegiate and alumnae women have been vibrant members of college campuses and in their communities. The Fraternity has chartered more than 247 chapters nationwide.
