Scholarships enable Fairmont State student to soar

Dec 14, 2018

Earlier this month, the Fairmont State Foundation announced a $1.3 million campaign aimed at closing the gap between two and four-year scholarships over the next 12 months. For students like Fairmont State Senior Samantha Tate, the "Every Gift Matters—the Scholarship Campaign" is a way to allow students to have experiences in and out of the classroom.

“I will graduate this spring with a degree in Business Administration,” said the Wierton native. “Scholarships have allowed me the opportunity to have a full college experience. As a Falcon I have been a member of the Honors Program, been an Honors Program mentor, and have been inducted into the business Honor Society Delta Mu Delta. I have travelled to Greece, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. I have been the treasurer, Academics chairman, Vice President of Programming, and President of the Delta Zeta Sorority and have served as an All-Greek Council representative.”

In addition, Tate has worked for the offices of Residence Life and Student Activities, and is currently interning for University Relations and Marketing. She noted that the success of this campaign will allow many future falcons the freedom to participate in all aspects of college life as well as encourage them to complete their degree.

“Students will know that we (the Falcon community) are there to help them through their entire journey,” she said. "Many people have played a role in my success at Fairmont State including our donors. My scholarships have helped ease the financial burden of obtaining my degree and I am so thankful. I look forward to joining the alumni community and joining those donors who helped me along my path.”

As we continue in the charitable giving season, anyone interested in supporting current and future Falcons through a gift for Every Gift Matters—the Scholarship Campaign can visit www.fairmontstate.edu/egmscholarship. Gifts can also be made directly with the Foundation by calling (304) 534-8786.
