Students, faculty meet with local lawmakers during Legislative Forum
The Legislative Forum was held on Wednesday afternoon for students, faculty and staff and began with individuals interacting with representatives before the formal discussion began.
The event gave students and faculty the opportunity to meet and interact with lawmakers. Professor Dr. Harry Baxter, chairman of the Legislative Advocacy Committee at Fairmont State, said this is an event they host every year to sit down with representatives before the legislative session begins in January.
“The main thing is the delegates can learn from us in terms of what our needs are and we can learn from the delegates and senators in terms of what is possible,” he said. “This is sort of the start of the lobbying effort on our part for the upcoming legislative session.”
People were able to interact with the representatives before the formal discussion began. During the discussion, people were invited to ask any questions or voice any concerns about Fairmont State University and higher education in West Virginia.
Representatives in attendance were: Barbara Fleischauer of Monogalia County, Terry Waxman of Harrison County, Tim Miley of Harrison County, Mike Angelucci of Marion County, Dave Pethtel of Wetzel County and Senator Roman Prezioso of Marion and Monogalia Counties.
