Fairmont State Falcon Family kicks-off holiday season with annual tree lighting
The Falcon Family Christmas Tree Lighting was held on Thursday in the Falcon Center to bring together students, faculty, staff and the community to kick-off the holiday season.
President Dr. Mirta M. Martin said while they have put up a tree and had a lighting in the past, this is the first year it’s been a big event. She loves Christmas and this time of year, so she wanted to share that with the University and community.
“This is a joyful time of the year and it’s a time for family to come together. The Falcon Nation is a family, so it’s very fitting that we come together,” she said. "I love this time of the year, it’s about family, it’s about being together, so this is a good time to very visibly turn on the lights of hope and of joy and share it with everyone.”
The tree was lit up by representatives of the Student Government while the Fairmont State University Choir and Band performed holiday tunes. Those in attendance we were welcomes to enjoy hot chocolate, hot apple cider and holiday cookies while enjoying the festivities. They were also invited to add Christmas bulbs to the tree.
