Military Appreciation Day Thursday
Fairmont State University and the Department of Athletics will be honoring veterans
and active military personnel on Thursday evening during Fairmont State's football
showdown with nationally ranked Notre Dame College.
As a part of 'Military Appreciation Night,' all active military personnel, veterans
and their families will receive free admission to the game.
Fairmont State will also honor members of the military with a pregame stadium fly-over,
featuring Fairmont State University's Aviation Center of Excellence.
During half-time, attendees will be introduced to the newest member of the Falcon
family, Tobey. The one-and-a-half-year-old black lab is the first ever college placement
for a dog from Dogs2DogTags, a nonprofit that works to place dogs with veterans suffering
from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Tobey will work on campus in the Veteran Services
office where he will emotionally support veteran students.
Thursday's matchup with Notre Dame will also be a "maroon out" and is an NCAA Division
II Showcase Game. Broadcast clearances for the game will be released in the near future.
Fairmont State comes into the game with a 4-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in MEC
play. Fairmont State is coming off a 24-6 win at UVa-Wise this past Saturday. Notre
Dame is unbeaten on the season (5-0, 5-0 MEC) and is currently ranked No. 20 in the
American Football Coaches' NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll.
Thursday's game is set for a 7:05 p.m. kickoff at Duvall-Rosier Field.
