Fairmont State ASCE hosts Halloween 5K Run/Walk
Fairmont State University’s chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will hold its inaugural fall fundraiser, a Halloween 5k Run/Walk, on Sunday, October 21 at the Monongah West Fork Rail-Trail. Runners will be colored in favorite creepy Halloween colors throughout the race and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
“ASCE supports several initiatives on campus including our national record holding concrete canoe team,” event co-chair Hannah Workman explained. “Our budget is small so a lot of our funding comes from fundraisers. We have previously relied on a large spring fundraising event but we wanted to try a fall 5k. Fall is perfect running weather and the Monongah West Fork Rail-Trail is a relatively flat trail full of beautiful leaves and shade.”
Members of ASCE reached out to local firms that they partner with throughout the year and have raised enough money to offset their costs for the event. This allows the fundraising event to be 100% profit.
“We want to thank our sponsors including Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., Triple H Enterprises, and Stantec. Without them, this event would not be possible.”
In addition to Workman, the event to co-chaired by Miranda Guentert. “I am very proud and thankful for our team, advisors, and sponsors. Many hours have gone into making all the colored powder, setting up for the day of the event, and spreading the word about the race to others. It has not been easy but we are confident that it will be worth it.”
Registration is $30 and includes an event t-shirt. Children 12 and under can register for $15 per person. Visit https://www.tristateracer.com/event.php?RaceID=10338.
