Fairmont State announces musical theater minor
The Department of Music announced today, October 31, that beginning in the spring of 2019, students can add musical theater as a minor to all majors on campus.
The degree is designed for students interested in performing musical theater and will provide hands-on training and experience. As one of the only universities to offer the musical theater minor in West Virginia, Fairmont State is excited to offer this unique opportunity to students.
“Students will take classes in acting, vocal performance, music theory, keyboard, and dance,” said Professor of Music, Brian Wright. “Then, utilizing these skills, they will perform with Fairmont State’s award-winning theater department.”
For students majoring in theater, this program expands their training in musical theater, while students in all other majors can continue to pursue their passion for musical theater.
Scholarship money is available for students based upon auditions, which will be held Friday, February 8th, 2019.
This minor offers the best of both music and theater, offering practical performance skills along with academic coursework that teaches important repertoire and historic trends.
