Greekapalooza offered insight into Greek Life
Greekapalooza was held Tuesday to serve as a sneak peek into Greek Life at Fairmont State University, where students were able to get more information about the nine fraternities and sororities on campus.
The event allowed students who might be interested in joining the Greek Life community to ask questions to gain insight into the positive impact and contributions the Greek community offers.
Senior Kali Pitsenbarger is a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She said as a transfer student, being in her sorority before coming to Fairmont State gave her some peace of mind.
“It was scary for me to come here by myself, but as soon as I got to know the girls, it was just easier,” she said. “Greek Life really does help you build those relationships, for freshmen or transfer students.”
Even as a commuter, Pitsenbarger said Greek Life has allowed her several opportunities to get involved and stay involved on campus.
This year Fairmont State’s Greek community gained a new fraternity and sorority — Alpha Phi Alpha and Zeta Phi Beta. All Greeks will wear their letters each Thursday and the Holly Ball, a Greek formal, will return to campus in November.
Greek Life at Fairmont State University is a united community of fraternities and sororities. The core values focused on are leadership, academics and philanthropy. Students must maintain the academic standard of a 2.5 GPA. Students complete many hours of service work with nonprofit organizations and by volunteering on campus.
