Fairmont State University kicks off its United Way campaign
Fairmont State University is proud to once again partner with the United Way of Marion County for its 2018 campaign and has set a goal of $25,000. Serving as honorary chair of the campus campaign is President Mirta Martin.
This year’s County campaign theme, “Be The One”, will be echoed on campus as faculty, staff and students are encouraged to find a way that they can “Be The One”. The campaign will run September 17 through November 9.
“The United Way of Marion County plays a vital role in creating positive change within our communities,” said Martin. “Fairmont State University believes in working together to achieve results, but it takes each of us doing our part to bring about community change. One person can have a tremendous impact.”
All contributions for Fairmont State’s United Way campaign stay local, as the money is donated to 22 different organizations in Marion County that assist people with healthcare, childcare, youth mentoring, senior programs, mental health programs, disaster response initiatives and healthy lifestyle initiatives, among others. These agencies, however, do not have the resources for large fundraising campaigns and rely on Fairmont State’s United Way campaign each year for additional funding.
Employees interested in contributing should complete their pledge form and return it to their department Team Captain. Employees can also visit www.fairmontstate.edu/unitedway for more information.
The entire campaign’s goal in Marion County is $475,000.
“Just like you’re known for doing across our region, Fairmont State University continues to step up for our community,” said Brett White, United Way Executive Director. “The dollars raised through this campaign are really changing lives. It is about helping our local neighbors, and no one does that better than Fairmont State.”
Fairmont State University’s donations help provide:
- 29 programs at 22 health and human service agencies
- 39,126 meals to individuals in need
- 1,126 nights of shelter for families affected by domestic violence
- 7,841 people received emergency financial assistance during a crisis
- 591 young people with STEM-based learning opportunities
Students are also participating in this year’s campaign by selling limited edition Maroon Madness t-shirts for the new “Maroon Madness” football game, which will be held on October 20th against Glenville State. T-shirts, which are $10 each, are available on campus and from United Way campaigns. This is the first year for the new t-shirts and students are hoping to sell over 500 shirts. More information is available online at www.fairmontstate.edu/$10madness.
“We’re proud to join with the University to support our local United Way. This new tradition is something that every Falcon fan can be proud of and we are thrilled to have our student body involved,” said Student Body President Dillon Bradley.
Since 2010, the University has given over $225,000 to the United Way of Marion County. Fairmont State University is the second largest contributor to the local United Way.
“Fairmont State University thrives when our community thrives. Working together, we can make the future even brighter for all our neighbors,” added Martin.
