AmeriCorps positions at NASA to bring robotics to all WV students
Competitive robotics is sweeping across West Virginia. Last year over 500 teams competed in 12 unique programs, impacting more than 5,000 West Virginia students. But, some students are still being left behind. As of today, there are 19 counties with no robotics teams but that will change in the near future.
The AmeriCorps Program, High Rocks Educational Corporation, Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, Fairmont State University, and NASA’s Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) Program have partnered together to bring competitive robotics programs to every county in West Virginia.
Individuals who are motivated to help students, educators, and our state while having fun, are encouraged to consider applying for one of two full-time positions. Through AmeriCorps, volunteers will work for one year with the NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center to recruit and train new teams, conduct scrimmages and tournaments, and help build a pipeline for students to turn their passion for robotics into a career path.
Applicants must be 18 or over, a US Citizen, be willing to re-locate to the Fairmont area, have reliable transportation, love working with children, and enjoy travelling. Preference will be given to applicants with some experience in educational robotics, K-12 education, or a STEM field.
Beyond the intrinsic benefits to volunteerism and helping others, the Americorp volunteers will be provided a living stipend, earn college tuition, gain valuable work experience in STEM education, and build their resume by working alongside a team of NASA education specialists.
