Weaving workshop returns to Folklife Center

Thanks to the success of the workshops held in June, Tamarack Artist and Fairmont State alumna D. Jane Gilchrest returns to the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on August 1 and 2 to present a second round of “Mug Ruggin It”, an introductory weaving workshop in the style of traditional Appalachian rag rugs.  

Participants will create four to six coasters called “mug rugs.”  The instructor provides all of the equipment & materials.  The looms are pre-wrapped and ready for you to weave. Participants are welcome to bring a special piece of fabric or clothing such as a shirt (100% cotton preferred) to make their pieces even more special. 

Two class sessions will be offered at the Folklife Center on Wednesday, August 1.  The first is at 2 p.m. and the second at 6 p.m.  A third session will be offered on Thursday, August 2 at 10 a.m. Each class runs about 2.5 hours and is suitable for all levels.  The class size is 4 students, and pre-registration required.  Contact Jane at 304-695-1580 to register.
