Second annual Youth Soccer Camp just around the bend
The 2018 Fairmont State University Youth Soccer Camp is right around the corner for students to gain some new skills and sharpen those they already have.
The week-long camp allows the university to get into the local community as well as promote a growing sport within West Virginia. The camp will be held under the direction of Head Women’s Coach Brandon Heembrock. In his first season he accumulated the most wins, most conference points and highest winning percentage in program history.
He said the camp offers soccer players a chance to learn and play soccer during the summer when most leagues aren’t playing. It also allows children who haven’t played soccer a welcoming environment to try the sport out.
“We had a very good first year of running our full-day youth camp last summer. We had a great amount of interest from parents, players and coaches, many of whom encouraged us to run it again this summer,” he said. “Many of our campers enjoyed being able to meet and interact with our two Fairmont State Women’s Soccer players. This summer we will have more Fairmont Soccer players working our camp.”
The camp is open to children ages 6 to 13 with all skill levels. Children will be split up into skill levels, so those on similar levels will be working together on their skills.
“Each day there is a different skill that will be emphasized at camp, so by the end of camp they have spent time working on dribbling, passing, shooting, team building skills, etc.,” Heembrock said. “It is our goal that all campers have fun and enjoy their time while attending our youth soccer camp. Furthermore, it is our mission to make sure that each and every camper leaves each day learning something new or adding a new skill to their game.”
Lunch will be provided on a daily basis, but it is highly encouraged to sending campers with a healthy snack, as there will be a morning snack break. Water jugs will be available to fill up personal water bottles throughout the day.
The campers will also be able to spend one hour each afternoon in the Falcon Center Swimming Pool. A lifeguard will be present at all times.
The camp will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30 to Aug. 3 at Duvall-Rosier Field. The cost per child is $150.
Parents are encouraged to register their children online prior to July 30th at www.totalcamps.com/falconsoccer. They will be accepting walk-up registrations and payment by cash or check on the first day of camp as well.
