Dr. Wm. Mark Hart appointed to Fairmont State Board of Governors
Dr. Mirta Martin, President of Fairmont State University, is pleased to announce that Dr. Wm. Mark Hart has been appointed to the Board of Governors of Fairmont State University. West Virginia Governor, Jim Justice, made the appointment during May 2018.
Mark Hart is a four-time graduate of Fairmont State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering technology, a Bachelor of Engineering in mining engineering technology, an Associate of Science in electrical and electronic engineering technology, and a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Dr. Hart subsequently went to West Virginia University where he received a Master of Science degree in engineering of mines and then completed a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Phoenix. Hart then completed his doctorate degree at the Colorado School of Mines where he received his doctorate in mining engineering with a minor in environmental management.
Dr. Hart has an extensive executive career in industry, has lived in several countries
and has also been very involved with academia. Dr. Hart is chairman and CEO of MATH
Energy Oil and Gas Company and is also chairman of MATH Energy Drilling Company. Hart
is on the President’s Council at the Colorado School of Mines. He has been an adjunct
professor for the past 15 years teaching energy, economics, electrical and mechanical
engineering, and mining engineering courses at night. He has been involved with numerous
universities throughout the world in terms of R&D and CO-OP programs.
Hart is past chairman, president and CEO of Austin Exploration and Petroleum Company.
Prior to this assignment he was president of NRG Energy Company for international
operations for Europe, Latin America, and Asia and past president and CEO of Sardegna
Energy living in Italy. Hart was VP & managing director of Newmont Mining’s Canadian
Gold Operations living in Canada and was president and CEO of Cyprus Amax Operations
in the South Pacific where he lived in Sydney, Australia. After starting his career
working for CONSOL Energy as a repairman in the UMWA for several years and after completing
his first degree at Fairmont State, Mark went to work for American Electric Power
Fuel Supply where he began his career in management.

where I did my initial undergraduate work,” stated Hart.
Dr. Wm. Mark Hart is the son of William and Mary Hart who reside in Fairmont.
