Freeman scholar to study in Japan
Vanessa Hilton has been awarded a $7,000 Freeman Asia Scholarship to study at Akita International University in Akita, Japan, during spring and fall 2018 semesters. The sophomore English major is minoring in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). She plans a career in teaching English abroad.
Hilton grew up in Kitzmiller, MD, and Terra Alta, WV. As part of the scholarship agreement, upon her return she will share her experiences with the local community, in order to raise awareness of study abroad and funding sources. Freeman Asia is a division of IIE (Institute for International Education). Hilton will be studying with a program through Fairmont State institutional partner KEI Abroad.
Through the KEI network of quality international universities, students can study a variety of subjects, including in their major, at program sites around the world.
