Campus hosts state robotics tournaments
Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology will host a series of VEX Robotics tournaments for elementary, middle, high school, and college students at the Falcon Center on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3. Admission to these tournaments is free and open to the public and provides an excellent opportunity for Fairmont State’s campus community to meet robotics team members, learn about competitive robotics, support STEM programs and see some exciting matches.
On Friday, March 2, college teams from West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts are slated to compete in the second West Virginia 2018 Vex U Tournament. Qualifying matches starting at 1:00 p.m. The elimination rounds will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 8 p.m. Three teams will be awarded slots to the 2018 VEX Worlds in Louisville in April.
Our first ever West Virginia VEX IQ Championship for elementary and middle school students will take place on Saturday, March 3 where 50 teams from across the state are competing for 11 spots at the World Tournament. Qualifying matches begin at 10 a.m., elimination rounds are at 3:30 p.m. and the closing ceremony will begin at 4 p.m.
The fifth annual West Virginia VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) Championship will also be held on Saturday, March 3 where the 24 best teams in the state will be competing for 5 spots at the World Tournament. Qualifying matches starting at 9 a.m., elimination rounds are at 3:30 p.m., and awards will take place at 5 p.m. Five teams will receive invitations to the 2018 VEX Worlds in Louisville in April.
