Four seniors were inducted into the Beta Omega Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honorary, on August 27, according to Dr. James Matthews, the faculty sponsor for the chapter at Fairmont State.

Chelsi L. Latocha, Alyssa N. Lloyd-Hanisch, V. Grace Rine, and Thomas White received the distinction at the Folklife Center before family and faculty.  Matthews told the assembly, “These students are our success stories.”

Latocha and Lloyd-Hanisch, natives of Fairmont, are seniors majoring in English education.  From Sistersville, Rine is senior majoring in English.  White, from Wadestown, is also a senior English major.

Angela Schwer, chair of the Department of Language and Literature commended the students, saying, "Sigma Tau Delta encourages English majors to strive for excellence in written expression, as well as appreciation of great literature.  Students who are awarded this honor will carry a commitment to literary excellence with them through life."

Lloyd-Hanisch said, “I am grateful for both the education and the opportunities Fairmont State University has given me. Being inducted into Sigma Tau Delta is an honor that I am proud to add to my accomplishments and I could not have achieved this without the help of my professors.”

Latoshia responded, "I am incredibly honored to represent an organization dedicated to the advocacy of humanity, culture, communication, and diversity through language and literature. Fairmont State University's English program has not only given me an opportunity to experience the beauty and importance of language, but develop a desire for lifelong learning as well."

Rine responded to the induction, saying, “I'm honored to be a part of a program that is dedicated to and appreciates the importance of the English language and its literatures, and I am grateful to Fairmont State University for giving me this opportunity.”

White commented, “I'm immensely proud to be a part of such a prestigious organization, and can only hope to represent it well in my conduct and demeanor.”
