Fine Arts to Host Music Festival

Sep 06, 2017

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts will host the fourth annual West Fork New Music Festival on the University campus Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept, 9. Guest composers and performers from the surrounding region and across the country will be in attendance.

The featured performers at the festival will be Great Noise Ensemble, an internationally recognized performing ensemble based in Washington, D.C. The ensemble strives to embody their mission to fight for the performance of new works and promote emerging talent in contemporary music. They will performFriday and Saturday evening at 7:30PM.

"With this year’s featured performers, Great Noise Ensemble, the audience festival has grown tremendously. They are a fantastic group, playing exciting music by composers from all across the country,” said Daniel Eichenbaum, Associate Professor of Music at Fairmont State and event organizer. "This is an exciting opportunity to hear music and performers at the forefront of contemporary music in our area and nationwide.”

In addition to the musical performances, several of the composers and performers will be offering workshops on a variety of musical topics. There will be a special presentation by Steinway and Sons, featuring their Model D concert grand piano, where the audience members will be able to see, hear, and try the spectacular instrument. This presentation will be Friday, Sept. 8 at 3:00 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theater.

All performances are at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. both days in Fairmont State's Wallman Hall Theater. The workshops will be in Fairmont State’s Wallman Hall Room 229. Both are located at the main campus at 1201 Locust Avenue, Fairmont. Admission to all concerts and workshops is free and open to the public.
