Community Volunteers Decorate Campus Shaw House
The holiday season at FSU includes several events at the Shaw House, the president’s home on the main campus. To make sure the house is ready to welcome guests with festive trimmings and a beautiful tree decorated with maroon ornaments, a group of community members have volunteered to decorate every year. Decorating is their way of supporting FSU President Maria Rose for all she does for the community throughout the year.
A native of Fairmont and a graduate of East Fairmont High School, Rose serves on the boards of directors for the United Way of Marion County and the Marion County Chamber of Commerce. The community has taken notice of Rose’s lifelong commitment to Fairmont and North Central West Virginia.
“Maria is a local person; this is her home,” said volunteer Kim DeVault. “She has such a servant’s heart. She serves; she doesn’t want to be served. She’s a true giver.”
