Student Wins Chance to ParkLikethePresident for United Way
Each year Fairmont State University supports the United Way of Marion County annual campaign. Many faculty and staff contribute each year to help meet the campaign goal, which is set at $440,000 for this year. Students joined the campaign this fall by participating in a raffle for a prime parking spot – the president’s.
FSU President Maria Rose said she thought the fundraising idea was a great one and graciously agreed to give up her parking spot to a student for a day. Students sold tickets in the Falcon Center to earn the parking privilege.
“The Park like the President idea was a fun way to engage our students in Fairmont State’s United Way Campaign. President Rose was very generous in donating her space,” said Amy Drvar, coordinator of the campus campaign.
Lynsey Butler, a sophomore Business Administration major from Bridgeport, won the parking spot raffle and selected Thursday, Nov. 10, as her day to #parklikethepresident. She said she was surprised to find out she won. As a commuter student, she said, it was great to try out the convenient parking space.
“Fairmont State as an anchor institution in Marion County honors our responsibility to provide for our community in many ways. The United Way of Marion County supports 20 different agencies that serve a wide range of purposes and people. We are proud to participate in their fundraising campaign each year to help the citizens of our county,” Drvar said.
