Students Participate in FalconLead
More than 40 student leaders and 15 student organizations from Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College participated in FalconLead, a leadership development program organized and facilitated by the Office of Student Activities and the Student Government Association.
The program this year expanded to a weekend-long event, Sept. 17-18. Saturday featured two portable escape rooms to assess students’ teamwork and leadership skills. The day also included sessions on Remaining an Active Student Organization, Who-Is-Who on Campus, Philanthropy Resources, Marketing and Recruiting and Retention.
Sunday featured exhilarating guest speaker Tom Krieglestein, developer of the Dance Floor Theory and a proud promoter of the Free Hugs campaign. His session connected those in attendance through high energy tactics and activities. He also taught student leaders how to engage uninvolved students on campus. A discussion about Student Government funding and web forms followed Krieglestein's presentation. The event culminated with executive officer roundtable discussions.
A resolution was passed in the Presidential Roundtable for representatives from each student organization to meet as a whole twice each semester with the Student Government President and the Student Activities Director. The group will be given the title "Council of Presidents."
Student leaders left that afternoon with certificates validating their completion
of the 12-hour program. Organizations completing the entire program were entered into
a drawing for an additional $100 in Student Government funding. Fairness @ Fairmont
was the winner of this prize.
