Homecoming 2016 "There's No Place Like Fairmont" Sept. 29-Oct. 1
With the theme “There’s No Place Like Fairmont,” Fairmont State University will celebrate Homecoming 2016 from Thursday, Sept. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 1, with a variety of events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and the Falcon community.
“As an FSU graduate, I know firsthand that Fairmont State University helps you achieve your goals. In my new role as Alumni Director, I look forward to sharing and celebrating the achievements of our current and future Falcons during Homecoming 2016,” said Meagan Gibson, Interim Alumni Director, Class of 2012.
The focus of Thursday, Sept. 29, will be the annual Homecoming Parade, sponsored by ACE Hardware, in downtown Fairmont. The parade lineup will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Everest Drive, and the parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. Float judging will take place in front of the Marion County Courthouse. Immediately following the parade will be an Alumni Gathering at the Joe N’ Throw, 323 ½ Adams St. Also on Sept. 29, a Pep Rally to celebrate Falcon pride is planned for 9 p.m. at the Duvall-Rosier Field Pavilion.
One of the highlights of Homecoming will be the Emeritus Induction Brunch to welcome Class of 1966 into the Emeritus Club. The brunch will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door. The event is sponsored by MVB Bank and the Fairmont State Alumni Association.
Also on Friday, Sept. 30, the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. is hosting the 1865 Heritage Society Reception in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms from 4 to 5 p.m. The Fairmont State Athletic Association will host the annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in Falcon Center Gym 1. The Class of 2016 inductees are Mike Arcure (Meritorious Service - athlete, coach, service); Rick Harris (Emeritus - baseball, football, swimming); Scott Hernon (men's swimming); Mike Kirby (wrestling); Thad McFadden (men's basketball); Nikki McGinnis-Crotty (women's basketball); Sidney Thomas (women's basketball); and Jason Trent (football). The Fighting Falcons Volleyball team takes on Urbana at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Feaster Center.
Saturday morning will kick off with the annual Fairmont State Alumni Association Alumni Awards Brunch, sponsored by The Thrasher Group, Inc. Six alumni will be honored during the event that begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms. Honorees are Stephen Lipscomb, Nancy Hoffman, Outstanding Alumni; Robert Tinnell and Dr. Beverley Baird Boothe, Alumni of Achievement; and Andrew Fischer and Dr. Angela Rehbein, Outstanding Young Alumni. Admission is $15 and can be purchased at the door.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, will be the 80s Game: Fighting Falcons Volleyball vs. Notre Dame College at the Feaster Center. At noon, the Alumni Association will host the Alumni and Family Weekend Tailgate in the Maroon Lot at Duvall-Rosier Field, which will be followed by the Fighting Falcons football game against Urbana at 2 p.m.
