WVSO's Cooper and Musicologist to Present Talk on Mozart

Oct 18, 2015

The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is presenting a new seven-part lecture series in the 2015-2016 season. Attendees can delve deeper into the history, theory and philosophy of specific composers with Maestro Grant Cooper and a different guest speaker for each lecture.

On Monday, Oct. 26, Cooper will be joined by acclaimed musicologist Dr. Michael Baker of the University of Kentucky’s Department of Music for the second Humanities Council lecture this season. The music of Mozart will be the topic of discussion and will take place at 3 p.m. Oct. 26 on the Fairmont State campus in Wallman Hall, Room 236. Admission is free and open to the public.

At 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26, the WVSO will present a concert in Colebank Hall on campus.  Tickets for the concert are available through the University’s box office at (304) 367-4240. No tickets are required for the lecture.

“With the support of the West Virginia Humanities Council, we are thrilled to bring these in-depth conversations about what makes music great. The reception to these lectures has been very positive, and we look forward to continuing Maestro Cooper’s conversations with these scholars and musicians,” said WVSO President Joe Tackett.

This project is being presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
